Patrick Rothfuss (born June 6, 1973) is an American fantasy author. He is the bestselling author of the Kingkiller Chronicle series, which includes "The Name of the Wind" (2007) and "The Wise Man's Fear" (2011). Rothfuss graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he studied English and psychology. He began writing "The Name of the Wind" in 1999 and sold the manuscript in 2006. The novel has received critical acclaim, winning the Quill Award for Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror in 2008 and the David Gemmell Legend Award for Fantasy in 2009. A third installment in the series, "The Doors of Stone," is in progress. In addition to his novels, Rothfuss has also published short stories in various anthologies. He is known for his intricate worldbuilding, lyrical prose, and complex characters. His writing has been compared to that of J.R.R. Tolkien, Ursula K. Le Guin, and George R.R. Martin.
