Patrick O'Brian (1914-2000) was an acclaimed British novelist, best known for his Aubrey-Maturin series of nautical historical novels. Born in England, he published his first novel at age 65. The Aubrey-Maturin series follows the adventures of Captain Jack Aubrey and his ship's surgeon, Stephen Maturin, during the Napoleonic Wars.
