Kurt Vonnegut Jr. (1922-2007) was an American author known for his satirical and humanist works. Born in Indianapolis, Vonnegut served in the army during World War II, an experience that deeply influenced his writing. His most famous novels include "Slaughterhouse-Five" (1969), a darkly comic anti-war masterpiece, and "Cat's Cradle" (1963), a satirical exploration of religion and the dangers of technology. Vonnegut received numerous awards, including the National Medal of Arts (1990) and the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in Short Fiction (1989). His works have been translated into more than 30 languages and have been widely adapted for film and television. Vonnegut's unique voice, blending absurdity, humor, and philosophical depth, established him as one of the most significant literary figures of the 20th century.
