About the Author
John D. MacDonald (1916-1986) was an American crime novelist best known for his Travis McGee series, featuring a private investigator operating out of a houseboat in Florida. MacDonald was born in Pennsylvania and started his writing career in the 1940s. He wrote over 70 novels, many of them set in his adopted home state of Florida. His characters and stories often reflected the social and environmental issues of his time. The Travis McGee series, which began with "The Deep Blue Good-by" (1964), is considered one of the most popular and influential crime series ever written. MacDonald received numerous awards for his work, including the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America in 1980. His novels continue to be widely read and enjoyed today.
