Jason Goodwin is an English historian and author known for his historical fiction works. Born in 1961, he studied history at Cambridge University and went on to pursue a career in journalism and writing. Goodwin's claim to fame is his series of historical mystery novels set in the Ottoman Empire, featuring the detective Yashim Togalu. The first novel in the series, "The Janissary Tree," won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel in 1997 and was praised for its vivid portrayal of Ottoman Constantinople.
