In her mid-thirties, she decided to focus on her writing and published her first novel "Blacklands" in 2009, which won the CWA Gold Dagger for Best Crime Novel. Bauer's writing is known for its dark, psychological themes and complex characters. Her novels often explore the hidden motives and vulnerabilities within seemingly ordinary individuals.
