Ann B. Ross was an American author best known for her children's literature. Born in 1909, she spent her early years in Oregon and Washington. Her writing career began in the late 1950s, with the publication of "The Door in the Wall." This novel won the Newbery Medal in 1950 and established Ross as a prominent figure in juvenile literature. Over the following decades, Ross authored more than 30 books for children and young adults. Her works often explored historical themes, with a focus on pre-Columbian civilizations. Notable titles include "The Land and People of Mexico," "The Nine Days of Christmas," and "The Secret of the Andes." Ross's writing was lauded for its meticulous research, vivid storytelling, and ability to engage young readers. She received numerous awards throughout her career, including the Children's Book Award from the Child Study Association of America. Ann B. Ross passed away in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of beloved and acclaimed children's literature.
