Amy Tan is an American author best known for her semi-autobiographical novels exploring themes of Chinese-American identity and mother-daughter relationships. Born in Oakland, California, in 1952, she earned a degree in English and linguistics from San Jose State University. Tan's literary debut, "The Joy Luck Club" (1989), became an instant bestseller and was later adapted into a film.
